Happy Birthday McNeill Designs! Celebrating the 6th anniversary of You’ve been Sentenced! on May 5, 2011

May 5, 2011

The original You've been Sentenced! game.

On Dec. 29, 2004 McNeill Designs for Brighter Minds CEO Donald McNeill had an idea for a word game. The concept? Players would make sentences from words on cards – something that had never been done before.

From his initial “a-ha moment,” Donald moved quickly. Having no background in game design, he assembled a team of designers, language specialists and business advisors  to turn the dream into reality.

In order to make the game “work,” Donald had to figure out the mathematics and geometry of how to make language into a playable game. It took weeks to turn the initial concept into one that would not only work, but would be entertaining, as well. This preparation included reading the dictionary – cover to cover, twice! – for just the right words to include.

You've been Sentenced! word game updated for 2011.

On May 5, 2005 the You’ve been Sentenced! word game was launched. And today, McNeill Designs for Brighter Minds boasts nine popular educational products including that very first game, You’ve been Sentenced!

So, what’s next for McNeill Designs? Stay tuned to find out!
