New images from Haiti: Learning English using You’ve been Sentenced! word game

March 24, 2011

Most of the images that we see of Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating 2010 earthquake are grim. The earthquake — a catastrophic 7.0 Mw – devastated the tiny island country, killing somewhere between 92,000 and 220,000 people, and leaving approximately 1.5 million homeless.

The Haitians, however, are slowly rebuilding with the dedicated assistance of missionaries from all over the globe. Recently, we learned that American missionaries were using the You’ve been Sentenced! word game to teach English as a Second (ESL) to Haitian citizens.

The game has proven to be an extremely popular way to learn English. And, in these images, the You’ve been Sentenced! game provides some much-needed laughter among the missionaries and students alike.
