Did you know that you can play great games FREE at your local public library?

March 16, 2011

In this challenging economy, many of us are looking for free family entertainment –screenings of films, tours of historically relevant buildings and sites, or nature hikes in national parks. One resource that shouldn’t be overlooked is your local public library!

In addition to a great selection of books and magazines, most public libraries also offer books-on-CD, films, and now, loads of wonderful games, too!

For example, the Exeter Public Library in Rhode Island has created The Learning Zone which houses a collection of traditional and non-traditional materials  including geography games like Ticket to Ride, history games like Name Chase, and word games like You’ve been Sentenced!

Many libraries also offer Game Nights, like the Kirkwood Highway Library in Delaware. These can be great opportunities to meet other folks from the community for an evening of entertainment and “test drive” new games. Then pick a few favorites and add them to the holiday gift list!

To find your nearest public library, visit PublicLibraries.com and get playing!

Not to mention that you can find an increasing number of good games on the internet. Some of them, like this Mastermind game (http://mastermind.creativitygames.net) are actually quite family friendly and are educational as well as fun played as a group.
