My explanation? Delaware was historically a hotbed of piracy. In fact, it’s actually rumored that the infamous Captain Kidd hid some of his treasure along our shores when he visited on his last voyage. Here, savvy pirates twist hay into “sticks” to make fuel for burning while they are in the hold of the ship. (It’s darned cold today, after all!)
